Toni Chelvi


He was born in Canals (València) in 1975. His first teacher was Raül Seguí. He obtained the best mark as a professor and won the Middle Degree Honor Prize, in Mestre Verd Conservatori, in Carcaixent. In 1998 he finished the High Degree in Tuba, equivalent to both History and Music Sciences in the High Conservatory in València degrees.

Chelvi was selected by the World Band (BWB) to play the tuba. Master/teacher Pablo Sánchez Torrella was the director.

He has taken part in both national (Andalucía) and internacional (Japan, with the València High Conservatori Jove Orquestra) tours.

Besides this, he has participate in tuba international courses in Vilanova de Castelló, having Roger Bobo, Mel Culberston, Jozsef Bazsinka, Michael Godard and Miguel Moreno as a masters. He has also made a jazz course in the High Conservatory in Madrid; John Sas was its director.

About the pedagogical area, he obtained the CAP (a degree which allows to be a teacher), recognized by the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.

Chelvi has collaborated in some recordings and concerts with Gran Teatre del Liceu, and Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya orchestras.

In 1999 he passed an opposition and obtained the post of tuba in the BMB. Nowadays, he is the tuba soloist in BMB and works as a tuba teacher in well-known schools in Barcelona.

His dedication to the Camera Music has turned into projects such as: founding member of the Barna Brass Quinent, director of Barcelona Ensemble tuba group, and recital soloist with the pianist Douglas M. Bringas as a accompanist.
